The initiative, led by the CARTIF Foundation and developed within the framework of the European HYPERION project, aims to strengthen the region’s industrial fabric and promote a sustainable hydrogen economy.
The strategy, driven by the regional Ministries of Economy and Finance and of Industry, Trade and Employment, will define key actions to boost hydrogen production, infrastructure, market development, and regulation. It will also analyse the region’s industrial, technological, and logistical capacities; identify emerging value chains and key stakeholders; and integrate European best practices, particularly those stemming from HYPERION.
Aligned with the EU’s Hydrogen Strategy for a Climate-Neutral Europe and Spain’s Hydrogen Roadmap, the initiative supports the creation of a competitive regional ecosystem for renewable hydrogen. It will also take into account major ongoing projects, such as the Castilla y León Hydrogen Valley (CyLH₂Valley), which foresees up to €380 million in investment to develop the region’s first integrated hydrogen ecosystem.
The Hydrogen Strategy 2030 is co-funded by Interreg EUROPE through the HYPERION project, which brings together public and private partners from Italy, Spain, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Poland, and Romania. The final document is expected to be completed before the end of 2025.
