To showcase its mission and progress, the EU-funded Castilla y León Hydrogen Valley project has released a new video highlighting the scale of the initiative and the collaboration behind it. The video illustrates how coordinated regional action can contribute to Europe’s broader energy transition.
Located in north-west Spain, Castilla y León combines strong industrial roots with vast renewable energy potential. The Castilla y León Hydrogen Valley project brings together public and private partners across a network of pilot sites to develop a fully integrated green hydrogen ecosystem, covering production, storage, distribution and end use.
Once fully operational, the initiative is expected to produce over 19,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually, reduce up to 152,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, and support more than 2,000 new jobs.
Across Europe, several defining challenges are shaping the transition to climate neutrality: reducing dependence on fossil fuels, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and building a resilient, low-carbon energy system capable of supporting industry, mobility and local communities. Addressing these challenges will require not only new technologies but also scalable, region-driven solutions.
Green hydrogen is increasingly recognised as a key part of this transition. By enabling clean energy storage, supporting the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries and enabling zero-emission transport, hydrogen can connect renewable power generation with practical applications across the economy.
