Pilot 1b. Armonia Green Burgos – Clean hydrogen for ammonia

Scope:

Large-scale renewable hydrogen production for industrial use

This pilot involves the development of a green hydrogen production facility in Melgar de Fernamental (Burgos, Spain), an area with strong solar irradiation and wind resources. The project foresees 500 MW of electrolysis capacity in two phases: 40 MW initially, followed by a 460 MW expansion. In the first phase, 25 MW (about 3,640 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year) will be allocated to CyLH2Valley operations. Hydrogen will be mainly used for downstream green ammonia synthesis. Electricity will be supplied through a PPA from IGNIS’s renewable portfolio, supported by a 54 MW self-consumption grid connection. Water will be sourced from the Pisuerga River basin. Hydrogen will be transported by tube trailers. The site has direct motorway and rail access, enabling efficient logistics and intermodal integration.
