Pilot 2. Green methanol for industry

Scope:

How hydrogen and CO2 combined become a sustainable fuel

This pilot focuses on the development of a green methanol plant in Garray (Soria), located in the PEMA Industrial Park, to provide sustainable fuel for the maritime and industrial sectors. The facility will produce 10,000 tonnes of clean hydrogen annually via 80 MW alkaline electrolysis, powered by 50 MWp solar and 100 MW wind energy.

The renewable hydrogen will be combined with up to 74,000 tonnes of captured CO₂—sourced from a nearby biomass power plant—to synthesize 50,000 tonnes of green methanol per year. The process involves catalytic conversion and multi-stage distillation to ensure high-purity e-methanol, which will be entirely supplied to KRONOSPAN, the industrial off-taker.
